Africa is rich in culture , heritage and lots of talented individuals who have distinguished themselves home and abroad. One sector that has benefited from these values is the African Movie industry which indeed has seen lots of develpoments. so therefore, there is need that those who distinguish themselves gets some sorts of recognition basically in form of awards.
Nollywood Gbagaun put together the four major Film awards in Africa :
1. AFRICA MOVIE ACADEMY AWARDS ( AMAA )
The African Movie Academy Awards generally known as the AMAA
awards is the most prestigious film awards in Africa. It is aimed at rewarding African
movie makers and motion practioneers by
honouring excellence and promoting unity in the African Movie Industry.

The AMAA awards was founded by Peace
Anyiam- Osiagwe and organized by
the African Film Academy. Just like the Oscars,The film awards draws attendance
from notable politicains, celebrities and people from all works of life
globally.
Its maiden edition was held in Yenagoa Bayelsa State, where
it has mostly held though other cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Elizabeth have
played hosts to the show.
Its 2016 AMAA awards edition is slated to hold in Port-
Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria on the 11 th of June 2016.
The Film awards has about 26 categories but Ghanian Actor,
Majid Michel holds a record of five different
nominations for an actor at the awards.
2. AFRICA MAGIC VIEWERS CHOICE AWARDS ( AMVCA )
The AMVCA is organized
by Mutichoice , unarguably the largest TV Satelite company in Africa . The awards is
a way of appreciating Movie practioneers whose movies have appeared on DSTV
Channels across the different countries of its operations. The votes are been
cast by the general public.
Its maiden edition was held in 2013 at the Eko hotels ,
Lagos where all subsequent editions have
been held. Nigerian Film makers such as Kunle Afolayan, Rita Dominic have all
been recipients of the prestigious film awards .
At the 2016 edition, Veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Ajayi
was presented an industry recognition award which was indeed an emotional
night.
3. NOLLYWOOD MOVIES AWARDS
Nollywood is the biggest player in the African Movie
industry. The Nollywood Movies awards was designed to celebrate outstanding
performances in the Nigerian Movie industry.
Nollywood has indeed brought a lot of development to film
production in Nigeria and the Film awards specially gives the accolades to
those who played bigger roles in achieving that. Till date, Nollywood is the third most rated
film industry in the world ranking after Hollywood and Bollywood.
The Maiden edition of the film awards was held at the
intercontinental hotel, Lagos. It draws attention from notable Journalists,
Politicians, Musicians and Celebrities.
The film awards boasts of about 27 different Categories
including a Special recognition Award that was previously won by Fomer Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan.
4. SOUTH AFRICAN FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS
The South African Film and Television Awards also known as the Golden Horns or the SAFTAs is an annual awards
ceremony hosted by the South African National
Film and Video Foundation (NFVF)
to reward creative excellence in the local movie industry as assessed by the volunteer judges.
The awards was first held in 2006 at the Gallagher
Estate which has become a home to the awards.
The 10th South African Film and Television
Awards ceremony was held on March 20, 2016 and hosted by Minnie
Dlamini and Katlego Maboe.
Winners of the awards are
presented with a horn and a cerfificate.
